Snow Golf, Dogsled Rides on Tap at Marathon Winter Carnival

Marathon Winter Carnival is back for a second year and will run over the four-day Family Day weekend, February 17-20.

Many events from 2011 are expected to return, including snow golf at the Marathon Ski Club, a snowmobile poker run, the snow sculpture contest and a hockey battle between make-believe teams called the “Toronto Maple Leafs” and the “Montreal Canadiens.”

The hockey game was so popular last year that “we filled our arena,” says winter carnival coordinator Andrew Coulter. “We must have had 600 people.”

New this year will be dogsled rides provided by Pukaskwa National Park.

The festival is organized by the Marathon Chamber of Commerce and other groups. For updates, check the Marathon Winter Carnival Facebook page.
