A Special Photo Contest with a Healthy Goal

Do you have photos of your favorite Lake Superior lighthouses?

You can help someone recover quicker from surgery, earn recognition for your favorite lighthouses and get a prize to boot.

Essentia Health and Lake Superior Magazine have teamed up to find the 11 best Lake Superior lighthouse photos to use in a special joint-replacement rehabilitation program that will begin at Essentia Health - St. Mary's Medical Center in January. During the program, recovering patients will “walk” around Lake Superior, using lighthouse waypoints to meet personal rehabilitation goals. Photos of the lighthouses will be used, along with information about the lights, on a chart that will indicate a patient’s progress.

So we need good photographs to use with the recovery program. From now until November 20, you can enter the contest by uploading your images of Lake Superior lighthouses through email. Please limit entries to 3 photos of any one lighthouse, but enter as many different lighthouses as you like. (Upload limit is 8 MB per email.)

Judges will choose 11 of the photos to be reproduced in various ways for the rehabilitation program. Photographers of the photos chosen will be given credit for use of their photographs and will receive a one-year subscription to Lake Superior Magazine, a 2012 Lake Superior Mini Calendar, a Lake Superior Magazine Lake-and-Lighthouse Travel Mug and an Essentia branded polar fleece throw.

Official Rules

ELIGIBILITY & SENDING IMAGES

Photographers: The contest is open to any photographer except for Lake Superior Magazine staff members.

Images: Photos must be the original work of the person entering. Photos must be of Lake Superior lighthouses in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan or Ontario. Contestants can enter up to 3 images of any one lighthouse, but as many lighthouses as they wish.

Digital images can be either TIFF or JPEG format and should be at least 400 dpi or higher. Images being emailed should not exceed 8 MB and only one image should be attached to each email. Images will need to be reproduced at large sizes, so only large, high-resolution photos will be considered. Your e-mail should include the photographer’s name, mailing address, daytime and evening phone numbers, appropriate e-mail response address and information about your photo, identifying its location, when it was taken and what makes it a favorite.

PERMISSIONS

By entering this contest, winners are automatically granting permission to Essentia Health and Lake Superior Magazine to use, without further compensation, the winning image in any way necessary to undertake and promote Essentia Health’s Joint Rehabilitation Clinic program. Credit will be given of the photographer when the image is used. Winners will also receive a prize package.

PRIZES and AWARDS

Photographers of the 11 images chosen will receive a one-year subscription to Lake Superior Magazine, a 2012 Lake Superior Mini Calendar, a Lake Superior Magazine Lake-and-Lighthouse Travel Mug and an Essentia branded polar fleece throw. More than one image by one photographer may be chosen and that photographer will receive multiple award packages.
