Wolves cross ice to Isle Royale – but leave soon after

Two wolves took advantage of an ice bridge to travel to Isle Royale National Park from the north shore of Lake Superior last month, but left within a few days, researchers said Tuesday.
Donation brings part of Islay back to Bayfield

Although the Islay is no longer a functional vessel, the boat’s memory and stories will forever be enshrined at the Bayfield Maritime Museum thanks to Greg Stamatelakys of Milwaukee, who delivered the Islay’s steering wheel, Johnson bar and wheelhouse to the museum on Tuesday.

Together with windy conditions, the warmth brought an end to the brief ice cave season at Apostle Islands National Lakeshore. The caves were closed on the evening of March 9; temperatures hit 61 degrees the following day. Total visitation this year was 37,800.
