The Duluth Art Institute highlights the work of local artist-darling Chris Monroe alongside the traveling exhibit from the Norman Rockwell museum.  Monroe’s work and unique take on life in Duluth will serve as a wonderful foil to Tudor’s drawings and watercolors. Monroe is truly at the height of her career with her very popular children’s book series “Monkey with a Tool Belt” having just been optioned as a national television series.  Chris Monroe’s sweetly twisted work is distinctively delightful.  Monroe is best known for her weekly comic strip “Violet Days,” but she has designed CD covers, restaurant menus, band posters, and benefit concert designs.  Her chicken design for the Homegrown Music Festival is in its tenth year of use and is emblematic of a vibrant local arts scene. The exhibit runs July 12 to September 30, 2012, at the George Morrison Gallery, with an opening July 12 from 5-7 p.m., along with the Tasha Tudor exhibit on loan from the Norman Rockwell Museum.
