In the summer of 2014, as a part of the Holocaust Education Foundation Eastern European Summer Seminar, Dr. Deborah Petersen-Perlman, Chair of the Bauemler-Kaplan Holocaust Commemoration Committee, traveled to Warsaw, Lublin, Izbica, and Krakow in Poland; Prague and Terezin in the Czech Republic; and, Berlin, Germany. Part of this trip included visits to Holocaust memorials and museums. She will reflect on the power and limitations of such memorials. Have these places moved away from honoring the victims of the Holocaust, instead serving as mere tourist attractions and curiosities?
