Diamond Match Timber Cruiser Program
to
Carlton County Historical Society 406 Cloquet Avenue, Cloquet, Minnesota 55720
The Carlton County Historical Society features a historic program about Cloquet's Diamond Match timber cruisers on Lincoln's birthday, Friday, February 12, 2016, at 1 p.m. at its museum in Cloquet.
President Lincoln, the "Old Rail Splitter," might have learned a few tricks from two of our local lumbermen, Pete Trygg and Milo Stillwell. Join us at the museum to see a videotaped interview made in 1994 by Milo Rasmussen of these two friends and employees of Diamond Match Company in Cloquet. Hear about their experiences in the woods of Northern Minnesota and their life in lumber camps. This videotape helps bring the museum's current exhibit "Wood City Smokestacks" to life. The exhibit shows the history of Diamond Match and Cloquet's other wood products industries and includes Pete Trygg's surveyor's notebook for Diamond Match forest lands and Milo Stillwell's photo delivering poplar logs to the plant in Cloquet. Trygg and Stillwell learned woodcarving after retirement and created a replica of Diamond Match lumber camps on exhibit at the museum.
After the program, refreshments will be served. Regular admission is $2 for adults, $1 for children under 12, and free admission for children under 5 and Carlton County Historical Society members. The museum is handicapped accessible. For more information call 218-879-1938.
