Position Description: Editorial Assistant
This is a new
position that will primarily support the magazine’s editorial staff,
performing mainly clerical and some fact-checking functions for our
magazines, guides and books. The successful candidate will possess a
great “can-do” attitude, good computer entry, phone and communication
skills with excellent spelling and grammar knowledge, must be extremely
accurate (accuracy is more important than speed) and detail-oriented,
well-organized, dependable and understand the importance of deadlines.
Should be proficient with Macintosh computers and office software
applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, e-mail and other programs.
Our outstanding staff works as a team. Training will be provided
on-the-job. The work also consists of clerical support including
handling correspondence with contributors, weekly calendar of events
updating for the magazine and our website, photo contest tracking,
maintaining files, proofreading, assisting with scheduling and tracking
of photos and other materials received. Having the ability to do some
rewriting and minor editing of press releases and events very helpful.
As the person gains experience, other duties may be assigned such as
assisting with travel plans and coordinating events for the editorial
staff. This position will often provide support to other staff members,
too, on special projects and office events.
Writing and photography skills are a bonus and could enable this person
to advance within the Company, BUT this is not a writing or
photographic position. If being a writer or photographer immediately is
your goal, do not apply. You will not be given those assignments; we
use primarily freelance work. This job is office work.
The successful candidate will commit to staying in this position for at
least two years and, if so, have the opportunity for advancement.
Full-time salaried position with paid vacation and 60% of your health
Insurance premiums paid plus other benefits. Hours Monday through
Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. with additional time often required.
Bachelor’s degree in related area necessary; some office experience necessary.
