2003 Rankings • 2002 Rankings

Lake Superior Travel GuideThe publishers of Lake Superior Magazine have tallied the votes to discover where readers of Lake Superior Travel Guide like to visit when traveling around Lake Superior. This nationally recognized list, gleaned from the ballots to the guide’s annual Reader Field Report program, ranks the new 2003 Lake Superior’s Best.

For the 16th year running, the top spot is again claimed by the Minnesota’s Lake Superior north shore. It has held that position since our polling began.

Wisconsin’s Apostle Islands/Bayfield continues to hold its 2nd place position after a dramatic jump last year from 4th position. This year, the Duluth, Minnesota/Superior, Wisconsin area (3rd place) traded places with Michigan’s Keweenaw Peninsula (4th place). These three areas continue to jockey for the spots near the top.

Grand Marais, Minnesota has continued its climb in the standings, moving to 5th place this year after residing in 9th place just two years ago. Michigan’s Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore/Munising moves back to 6th.

The twin Sault Ste. Maries (Ontario and Michigan) moved up a notch to 7th place closely followed by Thunder Bay, Ontario, in 8th place, which jumped from 10th position last year. Isle Royale National Park (Michigan) has maintained is 9th position on the chart.

In a surprise, there is a tie for 10th position between Big Snow Country, Michigan and Wisconsin, and Whitefish Point, Michigan. Big Snow Country last appeared on the chart briefly in 1999. This is the first time Whitefish Point has been ranked.
