Duluth, Minnesota - September 18, 2008
The October/November issue just off the press announces the recipient of Lake Superior Magazine’s
2008 Achievement Award. For the 15th time, this special award has been
given to a person who has made a difference in life around Lake
Superior.
Kurt Soderberg, recently retired executive director of
the Western Lake Superior Sanitary District in Duluth, earned the award
for implementation of a new direction and improved fiscal health for
the district during his 17 years at the head of the operation.
“During his tenure, Kurt directed this amazing resource to deliver more than required,” says Lake Superior Magazine
Editor Konnie LeMay. “He emphasized creation of informational materials
to help people be more responsible residents of the Lake Superior
watershed and led this region and, ultimately, the country as a role
model for how to ‘do the right thing.’”
Lake Superior Magazine’s Achievement Award was
started in 1994 to recognize individuals and organizations that improve
the well-being of Lake Superior and its residents.
The award often focuses on groups and people who can be
role models for successful and responsible use of the incredible
resource that is Lake Superior.
Kurt Soderberg was on the WLSSD staff for 28 years. His
background in psychology helped with the district’s mission to change
the behaviors of regional businesses and residents toward responsible
disposal or reuse of materials, reducing the waste in general and the
influx of toxic pollutants into the air, land and water systems.
The full story of Soderberg and the developments at WLSSD can be found in the October/November issue. Lake Superior Magazine, a full-color consumer publication, is
printed six times a year in Duluth, Minnesota. The magazine is
available by subscription, at newsstands and from the publisher's
office at 310 E. Superior St., Suite 125, Duluth, MN 55802. For more
