Award
Presented to
The Great Waters in Marquette
The
Great Waters program received the Lake
Superior Magazine 2009
Achievement Award at noon Thursday (Oct. 15, 2009) in the boardroom of
the Landmark Inn in Marquette.
Marquette author/historian and longtime magazine contributor Frederick
Stonehouse presented the award on behalf of the magazine.
The Great Waters, a program developed to promote regional cooperation,
economic development and environmental health, currently covers eastern
Upper Peninsula towns within the Lake Superior, Lake Huron and Lake
Michigan regions. The program earned the annual award given by Lake Superior Magazine and
announced is its current October/November 2009 issue. The Great Waters
is led by Northern Initiatives.
The award was presented at a gathering of regional civic and
business leaders exploring how to position the U.P. as a premier
nature- and cultural-based tourism destination. At the meeting, Travel
Michigan shared how communities can leverage the marketing muscle
of Pure Michigan to promote the region’s assets.
