New Summer Recreation Guide
Focuses on Urban Hikes
The Lake Superior region sports miles of fine hiking trails
with amazing lake or wilderness views – and many of those miles are
right within the city limits of the major cities around the lake.
Urban Hikes are the focus of Lake Superior Magazine’s
32-page Summer Recreation Guide that is part of the current April/May
now issue available on newsstands. There are literally hundreds of
miles of in-city wooded or waterfront hiking available among the
lake-region cities, a benefit for residents and visitors not frequently
found around the rest of the country.
“Revealing these in-town hiking opportunities reflects our
effort to make the magazine even more useful for residents as well as
visitors around the lake,” says Editor Konnie LeMay. “These terrific
trails may be overlooked and underused by people who live here.”
The
comprehensive Urban Hiking story by Bob Berg adds new places to
anyone’s list of things to do in the cities of Duluth, Superior,
Thunder Bay, Marquette, Sault Ste. Marie and Ashland. Besides the Urban
Hikes, the Recreation Guide lists the 4 major hiking trails around the
lake and provides the helpful hiking footwear picks of four regional
outfitters.
Hiking isn’t the only recreation featured, of course. The
guide offers stories on combing for beach glass and tips on paddling,
biking, golfing, birding and fishing. A personal essay by Julianne
Johnson tracks her journey to discover the maker of her heirloom canoe
and also profiles Lloyd Rehbein, the regional man who hand made more
than 600 canoes in his lifetime.
While Lake Superior Magazine has featured both Summer
and Fall-Winter recreation guides, this current guide has doubled in
the number of pages from the past. This special emphasis recognizes the
importance of covering lake-region recreation as more residents and
visitors concentrate on getting out and becoming active.
The Lake Superior Summer Recreation Guide, part of the April/May issue of Lake Superior Magazine, is available on newsstands or by calling 888-244-5253 or logging onto www.lakesuperior.com.
Lake Superior Magazine, a full-color consumer
publication, is printed six times a year in Duluth, Minnesota. The
magazine is available by subscription, at newsstands and from the
publisher’s office. The parent company, Lake Superior Port Cities Inc.,
also publishes the annual Lake Superior Travel Guide and has published about 20 regional books, including Betty’s Pies Favorite Recipes, Bonnie Dahl’s Superior Way and the Haunted Lakes series. This summer a new book, Haunted Minnesota by Hugh Bishop, will be available.
