Fourteenth Annual
Lake Superior Photo Contest
The Rules
ELIGIBILITY
Anyone may submit photographs to the contest, however, employees of Lake
Superior Magazine, their immediate families and regular photographic
contributors to Lake Superior Magazine are not eligible. Photos
must be taken in the Lake Superior area and be owned by the entrant; photos
that have been previously published or are in simultaneous submission to other contests or publications are not eligible.
SUBMISSIONS
Subject must be of Lake Superior or of subjects taken within the Lake Superior
region. Color transparencies (slides, 35mm format or larger) and color
or black-and-white prints (no larger than 8x10) may be submitted. Do
not send matted, mounted or framed prints.
35mm slides/transparencies must be in 2x2 plastic or cardboard mounts and
contained in clear plastic sleeves; larger-format transparencies must be
packaged in clear plastic sleeves. Although prints of digitally captured
images are acceptable (and will be judged based on the quality of the print),
digital
photographic computer files are not admissible (see "Judging"). Each
entrant may submit up to a maximum of 10 photographs. There is no entry
fee.
The photographer’s name, address, phone number and identification of
the image must be printed on each transparency mount, on the back of each
print or on individual transparency sleeves. Unlabeled, loose or mutilated
photographs will not be accepted.
MAILING
All entries must be carefully packed in padded envelopes with stiff cardboard
sheets and must be accompanied by a suitably sized stamped, self-addressed
envelope for return. Lake Superior Port Cities Inc. cannot accept responsibility
for material damaged during transit to or from the publisher. Enclose a
list of individual submissions, specifying title of each entry (Limit 10,
color and/or black-and-white). Also include an optional stamped, self-addressed
postcard for acknowledging receipt of your material.
JUDGING
Entries will be judged according to the overall quality of the photograph
submitted, with special attention paid to the composition of the image,
exposure, color and depth of field. Judges’ decisions will be final. Quality
of prints will be considered. Winners will be announced in the February/March 2009 issue (or other issue) of Lake Superior Magazine and simultaneously
online at lakesuperior.com. We reserve the right not to award a prize in any category.
MAILING
All submissions must be sent to the address listed (Lake Superior Photo
Contest, Lake Superior Magazine, P.O. Box 16417, Duluth, MN 55816-0417)
and postmarked no later than Monday, October 20, 2008. Late entries will
be returned unopened.
PRIZES and AWARDS
A grand prize package for the best overall image and first prizes
in each of three categories will be awarded. An additional award may be made for the best "Cover"
image. Certificates of Honorable Mention will be awarded at the judges'
discretion.
LIABILITY
Lake Superior Magazine is not responsible for any material lost,
damaged or misdirected in the mail or while in our possession. Material
will be returned only if entry is accompanied by return postage.
