Fifteenth Annual
Lake Superior Photo Contest
|
Deadline for Entries:
October 19, 2009
|
The Rules
CATEGORIES
Images
may be submitted in three categories – lake/landscapes, humor/people,
nature. A first- and second-place winner will be chosen in each
category. A Grand Prize overall winner will also be chosen.ELIGIBILITY
Photographers: The contest is open to any photographer who has not been paid to have a photo printed in Lake Superior Magazine;
magazine staff members and their immediate families cannot enter.
Photographers should be amateurs who make less than 50 percent of their
income through photography.
Images: Photos
must have been taken in the Lake Superior region and nearby areas.
Previously published images are NOT eligible nor are images being
submitted to any other contest concurrently. Up to 10 images may be
submitted. The entrant must hold all rights for the image submitted.
Any images with recognizable people should have permission for
submission from those in the photo, available to Lake Superior Magazine upon request.
Digital
images should be saved on a CD as a TIFF or JPEG with at least 400 dpi
or higher and include a printout summary no larger than 8x10 inches
(can be “thumbnails”). Color transparencies (35mm slide or larger) and
black-and-white or color prints from negatives may also be submitted.
Photos may be adjusted for color correcting, cropping or removal of
dust spots but should not be manipulated in other ways. Altered images
will be disqualified.
PREPARING MATERIALS
Include the entry form that can be downloaded from online or can be mailed to those who send a self-addressed, stamped envelope to Lake Superior Magazine. Include entrant’s NAME, ADDRESS, PHONE and E-MAIL ADDRESS.
Photo IDs: Each photo entry must be identified
with NAME, ADDRESS, TITLE, PLACE WHERE PHOTO WAS TAKEN and CATEGORY,
although digital submissions on a CD only need name and address marked
on the CD. We recommend that you do not write
directly on the backs of prints because ballpoint pens can “engrave”
through the photo, and gel or other inks do not dry properly. We suggest
making a label for each separate print or transparency containing the required information, then
adhere it to the back of the print or transparency.DEADLINES & MAILING
All submissions must be sent to
Photo Contest

Superior Magazine

postmarked no later than October 19, 2009. Although there is no cost to
enter, entries will not be returned unless a self-addressed, stamped
envelope is provided. Winners will be announced in the February/March
2010 issue of Lake Superior Magazine. Submissions with return packaging and postage will be
sent out by January 30, 2010. Sorry, but e-mailed submissions cannot be accepted.
