Main Head
Robert Berg
Managing Editor
Bob
Berg, managing editor, joined the magazine staff in June 2005 after a
24-year career in daily newspapers that included stops in Ottumwa,
Iowa, and Winona, Minnesota, covering everything from local government
and state politics to murder trials and business news. A native of
southern Minnesota, he fondly recalls hot and muggy summer vacations as
a kid fishing on northern Minnesota lakes. So he was thrilled to get a
chance to move north to the Twin Ports of Duluth, Minnesota, and
Superior, Wisconsin, and a place that seemed like a whole different
world to someone who lived so many years in farm country in Minnesota
and Iowa. Landing a job as a reporter at the Daily Telegram in
Superior in 1996 was lucky in another respect - it turned out to be a
catalyst for meeting his future wife. After covering City Hall and
business news for a couple of years, he switched gears to serve as the Telegram’s
news editor. A graduate of the University of Minnesota School of
Journalism and Mass Communications, his other experiences included
working as a writer for a grant-funded research project on aging in
Minneapolis and as a freelance writer for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, covering news events in Racine and Kenosha, Wisconsin.
