Pine trees always talk, even in the gentlest of breezes.
The ebb and whoosh of wind-rippled branches dominates the drone of insects,
the trill of warblers and the crunch of deadfall underfoot as you venture
down the trails in Estivant Pines Nature Sanctuary near Copper Harbor,
Michigan.
The oldest living trees in Michigan - a virgin
stand the likes of which can’t be found anywhere else east of the Rockies
- tell their story more dramatically than any person ever will.
But the tale of how these stately pines have been
preserved requires human interpreters. The days of wanton cutting cannot
be forgotten, lest history repeat itself.
