We were reminded by a reader recently that I have
sorely neglected relating new information about one of the members of our
staff, especially in the form of photographs. That would be our resident
Office Dog & Greeter Huckleberry Finn.
Not
everyone is interested in reading about dogs, I know. And when I couple
it with tails … er, tales about the cats that he lives with, well, I could
easily offend a whole lot of people. But we also know that Huckleberry
has become quite the fixture around here. I may have mentioned before that
we have folks who come to the office just to visit Huck. He performs his
duties well, rousing himself from his desk area (a cozy corner in the corner
of my office) to venture into the front part of the office to say, “Howdy
do, and how are you?” There’s always a tail wag in there, and sometimes
a rollover on the back for a good tummy rub.
Lookin’ toward the Big Time.
Huckleberry
has reached the good olde age of 10 years (February 18), and like most
dogs he has obtained sage wisdom. He can differentiate between temporary
visitors and the new folks who come to actually work here at the magazine.
Almost everyone becomes a favorite, and at least once during each day the
employees are blessed with a visit and a favored rest under their desk.
He’s never one to let a stray crumb exist on the floor for very long (he
resembles his father, the editor, when it comes to physique). And
so, his policing actions are much appreciated.
Huck takes on the task of officially greeting a
familiar-looking pack of visitors to a bigtime dog show.
With spring upon us, Huck’s main thought these days is his daily walk to
the beach. We thank you for asking about him and want to assure you that
he is truly a valued member of our staff. Stop by the office sometime to
say, “Hi.” Huckleberry would love it.
