When the call went out for entries to our annual Lake
Superior Magazine Photo Contest, 150
photographers took heed and sent in more than 1,000 images on, in and around
Lake Superior. But as the contest grows - now in its seventh year - the
judging doesn’t get any easier with so many beautiful images capturing
the lives and places of the lake. With just the photo or slide (no place
or photographer names), judges tried to narrow to an impossible few the
choices of those with the best photographic quality and composition. Some
are fresh looks on familiar places; some freeze a wonderful moment in “lake
time.”
This year awards are given for grand, first and second places. The grand-prize
winner earns an award valued at $250 that includes a travel package in
the Lake Superior region. The first-place winner receives prizes valued
at $150 that includes a gift certificate for Lake Superior Collection products.
The second-place winner receives a prize valued at $50 that includes a
Lake
Superior Magazine subscription and a 2002 Lake Superior Calendar.
For the first time this year, a special category was added: Cover Award.
The winner of this award earns a prize valued at $175, which includes a
subscription and calendar. The cover of the magazine must be inviting
and offer that difficult combination of a beautiful or whimsical image
that leaves the right spaces for words.
Meanwhile, we encourage everyone to enjoy the coming year on Lake Superior.
Take lots of pictures and remember to send entries by October 21 for the
