Cool
weather sure gets people moving, at least cooler temps seem to get my people
hurrying to do things in the office and in the whole lake neighborhood.
It’s even tough to find a squeaky-toy tosser!
At our office, late fall is time for “Christmas” with many holiday
gift orders that keep our on-staff elves scurrying. One look at our Gift
Guide shows why our elves are on the go. There’s lots of good
people stuff in there like books and clothes and new things like a kiln-fired
stained glass scene of Lake Superior. (I’m pushing for dog treats shaped
like the lake that I could, naturally, taste test. But the staff hasn’t
found any yet.)
Just about now is when we start work on our holiday (December/January)
Lake Superior Magazine issue, too, and begin work on our annual
Lake Superior Travel Guide.
And that’s just in the office!
This is also the time of year when our outside “pet” projects kick into
high gear. (I’m a “pet” project, too, but mostly I just need to be petted.)
Lake Superior Magazine is a co-sponsor with the Lake Superior Marine
Museum Association of the great Gales of November program. You won’t see
many dogs there, but you’ll meet a lot of divers, maritime historians and
researchers and nice boat and lake folks. The main events are at the Duluth
Entertainment Convention Center on November 9. Ticket holders can come
to a special Lake Superior Magazine opening gala at the U.S. Army
Corps of Engineers Maritime Visitor Center in Canal Park. Call 218-727-2497
or go to www.lsmma.com
for details.
As for my pet project, lots of dogs come to the John Beargrease Sled Dog
Marathon (February 28-March 6). Mark those dates and watch these pages
for updates! I’m doing roll-overs to support the canine athletes of the
marathon … but I’d rather test a few biscuits … or play squeaky toy with
someone. Any takers?
