For beef

2-3 lb. family steak, 1.5-inches thick
1/4 c. soy sauce
1/4 c. Worcestershire sauce
2 tsp. liquid smoke
1 Tbsp. garlic powder
2 Tbsp. black pepper

Place all ingredients in shallow pan and mix. Pierce beef with a fork and marinate for 3 to 4 hours, turning every 1/2 hour.

Place marinated meat on grill for 5 to 7 minutes per side over medium flame. Cut into strips for serving. May also cut beef in chunks before marinating for kabobs.

For chicken kabobs

3 lb. boneless, skinless chicken breasts cut in 1-inch cubes
8 oz. Italian dressing
1/2 can 7-up
1/2 can beer (the other half is for the cook)
2 Tbsp. black pepper

Marinate for at least 2 hours, turning every 1/2 hour. Soak bamboo skewers in water for at least an hour to prevent splinters and burning, then build kabobs with marinated chicken and choice of veggies (peppers, onions, cherry tomatoes and mushrooms, as examples) cut into 1-inch chunks. Grill over medium flame.
