“Home for the holidays” takes on a somber note if you don’t have a home. That is why we strongly urge support of local homeless shelters and missions. We’d like to give a particular nod to Harbor House Crisis Shelters in Superior. Two shelters, run by Faith United Methodist Church, provide a safe place for single moms, dads or families with children, as well as single women. A list of volunteer, monetary and item needs is on the group’s website. A sense of humor, as well as big hearts, recently went into a fundraising run for the shelters devised by the Superior BID (Business Improvement District). The run was 32 feet in distance, started at 6:30 p.m. and ended at 6:31 p.m. It drew about 70 people ($15 to register and you even got a T-shirt) and will be an annual event. If you’re looking for a Christmas gift that gives twice, the group sells $16 pins from “Designs by Lucinda” at the church, 1531 Hughitt Ave. Phone ahead – 715-394-9608 – to make certain someone is in. The website is harborhousecs.org.
