Spring made a brief appearance last weekend; the grass started to green and the streams began to swell. But the week ended, as it has so often the last few months, with more winter, including upwards of a foot of snow in parts of northwestern Wisconsin.

Dredging in Marquette
Starting Monday, Marquette’s Presque Isle Marina will be closed until July 1 while the harbor is dredged, reports WLUC.

+ The St. Louis River Alliance is looking for piping plover monitors this spring, reports the Duluth News Tribune. We wrote briefly about the Big Lake’s plover monitoring programs last year.
+ The Marquette City Commission “approved a three-year lease agreement waiving the boat slip rental fee for Marquette's flagship, Coaster II,” reports the Mining Journal. The ship will participate in the Tall Ships Duluth event this summer.
+ The Duluth Seaway Port Authority received a Robert J. Lewis Pacesetter Award from the Saint Lawrence Seaway Development Corporation “for registering increases in international cargo tonnage shipped during the 2012 navigation season,” reports the Superior Telegram.
