Betty Lessard
Betty Lessard, namesake of the Betty’s Pies restaurant on Minnesota’s North Shore, passed away on Thursday. She was 90 years old.
Known as “The Pielady,” Betty took over her father’s Two Harbors fish stand in 1956 and, over the next 28 years, grew it into a North Shore icon famed for its delectable baked goods. She sold Betty’s Pies and retired in 1984, but stayed connected. She lived within sight of the restaurant and, until recent months, still stopped in for breakfast every weekend. In 2001 she worked with us on The Original Betty’s Pies Favorite Recipes, in which she shared stories and classic recipes from her days at the restaurant.
Rest in peace, Betty. You’ll be missed.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on April 6 at Sunrise Funeral Home in Hermantown, Minnesota. Here's the full obituary.
