Lake Level Report, January 2014
Declining less than usual in December, Lake Superior is now just an inch below its long-term average level – and a foot above the level recorded one year ago.
From the International Lake Superior Board of Control and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers:
This past month the water supplies to Lake Superior were well above average. ... As a result, the level of Lake Superior declined 5 cm (2 inches), less than the average decline of 8 cm (3 inches) in December. Currently, the Lake Superior level is 3 cm (1 inch) below its long-term average beginning-of-January level, but 31 cm (12 inches) above the level recorded a year ago. It is 13 cm (5 inches) above its chart datum level. The level of Lake Superior is expected to continue its seasonal decline during January.
