"Water Works" – Closing Celebration
to
Duluth Art Institute 506 West Michigan Street, Duluth, Minnesota 55802
The Duluth Art Institute is hosting a closing celebration for the summer "Water Works" exhibit in the fourth floor Morrison Gallery at the Depot. Free and open to the public, the closing party is a perfect way to wind down the summer and entertain your eyes with wonderful work on view. Refreshments by the Minnesota Wine Exchange keep the theme local. Gallery docents will be on hand to answer questions and give tours. The Morrison Gallery will feature the work of more than 50 local artists celebrating our most precious resource. "Water Works" shows off artists like Robert Porkorney, an avid surfer in Duluth and California who depicts the source of his recreation and enjoyment in breathtaking paintings of Lake Superior and the Pacific Ocean. For her ceramic wall installations, Liz James draws on the glistening shimmer of light on water for her three dimensional visions. The exhibit also highlights the work by artists who engage with the liquid in ways not so literal. In the Corridor Gallery will be the work of Lee Englund in "A Strong Experience of Nature." Lee creates, teaches, and takes inspiration from the Twin Ports community he calls home. The Steffl Gallery will feature work from Chris Faust in "Revisiting Twain's Mississippi." St Paul native Chris Faust has been carefully re-photographing views from cartographer Henry Bosse’s original 1880 cyanotype prints.
