Lunch With the History People presents "The Underground Miners of the Vermilion Range” with Doug Luthanen, noon to 1 p.m. Thursday, June 18, in the Underground, on the first floor of the St. Louis County Heritage & Arts Center (the Depot) in Duluth. Doug is the son of a miner and musician, and was raised in Ely, Minnesota. His broad career ranges from logistics with McDonalds and Cargill to playing in the rock band known as The BopCats and writing a weekly column. He has also volunteered for the Ely Miners Memorial and served on the board of the Greenstone Arts and Heritage Center. Through videos, Doug will overview the geography, geology and history of the mine. The videos explain the significance of the underground mines and the mission of the Ely Miners Memorial. There will be limited theater-style seating (no tables), but feel free to bring your own bag lunch. Seating is first-come, first-served (no reservations).
