Duluth Art Institute 506 West Michigan Street, Duluth, Minnesota 55802
The Duluth Art Institute at The Depot presents the Native Skywatchers Book Opening event Thursday, August 14, from 5 to 7 p.m. in the DAI Galleries. Celebrate the books created by the artists of Native Skywatchers and hear authors Carl Gawboy, Ron Morton, Annette Lee and William Wilson discuss their recent publications and the important work they are doing with the Native Skywatchers program. Get one last look at the "Native Skywatchers" exhibition at the DAI and enjoy some light refreshments. The exhibition runs through August 31. Dakota artist Annette Lee devised Native Skywatchers to revitalize the native (Ojibwe and Dakota) star knowledge and build community around it. She received a grant from NASA to lead Native Skywatchers workshops nationally. She currently serves as professor of physics and astronomy at St. Cloud State, and her artwork is celebrated regionally and nationally. The exhibit features artwork by Annette, her partner, William Wilson, and their friend, Carl Gawboy. 218-733-7560. www.duluthartinstitute.org.
