1918 Fire Book Reception in Cloquet
to
Carlton County Historical Society 406 Cloquet Avenue, Cloquet, Minnesota 55720
The Carlton County Historical Society will host a Book Reception for their new 1918 fire book "Fire Speaks Our Words" on Sunday, February 18, at 1 p.m. at their museum in Cloquet.
The reception will include an acknowledgement of authors who contributed to this book by presenting them with a book and honorarium. The recently published book is a tribute to the 100th anniversary of the Fires of 1918, which swept through Carlton County and surrounding counties. This fire was recorded as the worst disaster in state history, both in lives lost and in property destroyed.
A grant from the Arrowhead Regional Arts Council made it possible for the Carlton County Historical Society to publish this book, which is a collection of original meditations on the fires. A final portion of the grant includes a community event to be held at the County Seat Theater in Cloquet on the evening of October 12, 2018. The event features a Readers' Theater, where excerpts from this book will be read and victims will be memorialized.
The Book Reception continues a year-long series of programs and activities commemorating the 100th anniversary of the 1918 fire, which occurred on October 12, 1918.
Visitors will be able to view the museum's new exhibit, "A Century Ago – The Great 1918 Fire." Refreshments will be served during the reception. This event is free and open to the public. The museum is handicapped accessible. For more information, call 218-879-1938.
