1918 FIRE READER'S THEATER PERFORMANCE IN CLOQUET
The Carlton County Historical Society presents a Reader's Theater Performance from its recently published book "Fire Speaks Our Words" on Friday, October 12, 2018, at 7 p.m. at the Encore Performing Arts Theater in Cloquet.
Thanks to a grant from the Arrowhead Regional Arts Council, the historical society was able to publish a book of creative writings by 30 local authors, as a Centennial tribute to the people who experienced the 1918 fires. Part of this grant included Writers' Workshops to prepare authors for their submissions, plus a Book Reception to meet the authors at the Carlton County Historical Society's museum in Cloquet in February. Next, the grant includes a public performance of many of the authors reading excerpts or entire stories and poems from the book.
The night of October 12 was chosen for this performance since it was the evening of October 12, 1918, one hundred years ago exactly, that the great 1918 fire entered and destroyed Cloquet.
After the performance, books will be available for sale and refreshments will be available. This event is free and open to the public. The Encore Performing Arts Theater is located at 2035 Highway 33 South in Cloquet. For more information contact the museum at 218-879-1938.
