1918 FIRE RELIEF PROGRAM AT MUSEUM
The Carlton County Historical Society welcomes Camela Swanson Haase, who will present a program on 1918 Fire relief workers at its museum on Saturday, June 16 at 1 p.m.
Haase, originally from Moose Lake, began her career in teaching and research by starting out as a summer caretaker at the Moose Lake Depot and Fires of 1918 Museum. Recently she wrote an article for the Minnesota Historical Society's Minnesota History magazine entitled "Early Social Workers as Disaster Relief Workers: The Minnesota Fires of 1918 and the Work of the Red Cross." Her slide program explains how the field of social work was just developing, and the tireless work of relief helpers bringing aid and comfort to fire sufferers.
This program is part of a yearlong series of programs and events provided by the Carlton County Historical Society in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the great 1918 fire in Northern Minnesota. After the program, refreshments will be served. Regular admission is $3 for adults, $1 for children under 12, and free admission for children under 5 and Carlton County Historical Society members. The museum is handicapped accessible and air conditioned. For more information, contact the Carlton County Historical Society at 218-879-1938.
