Julebyen (YULE-eh-BE-en) is Norwegian for "Christmas Village," and refers to a special time of celebration and gathering, when towns and villages come alive with lights, music and crafts just before Christmas. The village of Knife River, Minnesota, keeps this tradition alive locally. Come and visit on December 6 and 7 and enjoy the celebration.
The second annual Knife River Julebyen will build on last year’s inaugural success by adding a heated tent (“Gnome Dome”) where festival-goers will find entertainment with a Scandinavian flare, and a Julebyen Bazaar featuring home-baked Nordic breads and specialty items.
Also new this year is the “Julebyen Express” train that will take festival-goers on Saturday from downtown Duluth to Knife River and back. The train leaves The Depot at 10 a.m. and returns around 3 p.m.
The village’s annual Tour of Homes will be held on Saturday starting at 10 a.m., last tours leaving at 3 p.m. Shuttles available.
