The annual Ely Greenstone Public Art Summer Art Camp for Kids will begin Monday, June 12, at 8:45 a.m. until noon at the Miners Dry House in the Pioneer Mine Complex, Ely Arts and Heritage Center, at 105 Miners Lake Landing Road. The popular summer camp, for ages 7 to 12, will be Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, June 12 to 14; after opening day, the camp runs from 9 a.m. to noon. The cost is $50, and some scholarships are available. Youngsters with family and friends in the Ely area are welcome to register and attend. This year’s Art Camp features stone carving, painting a tile trivet, drawing and painting watercolors of real and imagined birds, making paper, creating a wind chime and a few surprises. Artists/teachers include Bill Griffin, Lynne Hill, Nicole Selmer and Mike Sinesio. Each student has four class sessions each day, along with a healthy snack break. Wednesday at noon, parents and friends are invited to the Miners Dry for an art exhibit featuring the works of the students. Applications are available at the Ely Echo, and fliers were sent home with Washington Elementary School students. This event is sponsored in part by Ely Greenstone Public Art, the Gerry Ryberg Memorial Fund, and Fall Lake and Morse townships. Questions should be directed to co-chairs Muffin Nelson at 218-235-1912 or Sue Syverson at 319-610-3812. www.elygreenstone.org.
