Whether you want to reconnect with your heritage, learn some keywords & phrases, or meet other people who share your interest in the Norwegian language this could be for you. Each session will include both lecture/going over handouts and small group practice.

Instructor: Marte Hult
Marte is a native of Oslo, Norway, who grew up in the United States. She graduated with a BA degree in English and German from the University of South Dakota and holds MA and Ph.D. degrees in Scandinavian Languages and Literature from the University of Minnesota, where she taught Norwegian for many years. She is the author of Framing a National Narrative: The Legend Collections of Peter Christen Asbjørnsen and Norsk på nettet, a beginning Norwegian online language course. She translated sixty-four of Hans Christian Andersen's literary fairy tales for the Barnes and Noble Classics series and contributed to The Greenwood Encyclopedia of Folktales & Fairy Tales published by Greenwood Press in 2008. Marte has also often taught Norwegian language and literature courses at St. Olaf College, and in semi-retirement has completed many translation projects. In her spare time, Marte enjoys reading and gardening, is Secretary of the Iris Society of Minnesota and maintains the Society’s website. Before full-time caregiving responsibilities for her mother, she enjoyed walleye fishing with her husband in Voyageurs National Park.
