Cook County Higher Education (CCHE) is prioritizing the work necessary to create a learning environment where every student can succeed in learning and earning the education they desire. Our intention is to counteract discriminatory policies that prevent people from equally accessing the benefits of education. To kick off this effort, CCHE is hosting a two-part day long workshop. Join us for the morning session that will focus on defining the issues, for the afternoon session to brainstorm ideas for a CCHE Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility Strategic Plan, or both! Please see below for more information
Beyond Diversity 101: Micro-inequities, Implicit Bias, and Moving toward Equity; 9am-11:30am
Many of us have been involved with diversity training that focuses on cultural differences and respecting all perspectives. While this is a good start, we cannot move toward true equity in our workplaces, organizations, and personal relationships until we address historical and institutional inequality. In order to address the myriad ways that certain people are marginalized based on social identities such as race, gender, disability, religion, class, sexual orientation, etc., every one of us needs to understand our own identities, how we all demonstrate bias that is often unconscious, and how we are all capable of moving toward equity.
9am-9:30am Virtual Coffee: Welcome, Introductions & Intention-setting

CCHE has hired Dr. Anne Phibbs of Strategic Diversity Initiatives to help us create a diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEIA) strategic plan. Anne will be facilitating the DEIA Strategic Planning Session. Anne will utilize the feedback shared by our community during the DEIA Strategic Planning Session to formalize a strategic plan for CCHE. CCHE then share the plan with you, to ensure that we accurately captured the intention and insight from our day together.
