There is a power in the stories we read–to connect us with experiences beyond our own. Besides being a relaxing hobby, reading can create space for self-reflection and can also give us an effective way to have real conversations with our families, friends, co-workers, and neighbors. Readers of all ages can take part in a community movement to read, learn, talk about, and create social transformation.
Join the community in reading Firekeeper's Daughter during the month of September. We hope that this community read series will equip and inspire our community, both adults and youth, to imagine and create a more inclusive and equitable world. When we as a community read together, we become part of something bigger than ourselves.
Join us for an in-person book group - book discussion and potluck at Cook County Higher Education. This Community Read is a book club where everyone in the community is welcome to attend!
CCHE is hoping to provide a Zoom gathering with author Angeline Boulley in October 2022 - look for more info to come.
Firekeeper's Daughter by Angeline Boulley is an electrifying thriller layered with a rich exploration of the modern Native experience, a reckoning of current and historical injustices, and a powerful celebration of community.
The Firekeeper's Daughter is available at the Grand Marais Public Library and Drury Lane Books, e-book and audiobook copies are also available.
Contact gethelp@mycche.org for questions to consider while reading. What other questions do you find yourself asking or thinking about?
