FRED FRIEDMAN PROGRAM AT MUSEUM
The Carlton County Historical Society welcomes Fred Freidman to its museum in Cloquet on Saturday, October 21 at 1 p.m. to present a program called "The U.S. in World War I."
Friedman is known in the area as an attorney and career public defender. After practicing in Duluth as public defender, he served as the Chief Public Defender of Minnesota's Sixth District in northeastern Minnesota, achieving the accomplishment of being Minnesota's longest serving chief defender in history. Born in Chicago and raised in Indiana, he moved to Duluth, graduated from Denfeld High School, then graduated from UMD and the University of Minnesota Law School in Minneapolis. At one point he lived in Cloquet. He has written many articles, taught at many schools, and won many awards including Minnesota Public Attorney of the Year. Friedman is also known as a dynamic public speaker, co-hosting a radio show called "The Sports Page or Fool Fred."
Friedman's topic of "The U.S. in World War I" complements the museum's current exhibit called "A Call to Arms: Carlton County in World War I." Although the Great War in Europe started in 1914 after the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand in Bosnia, the United States didn't enter the war until 1917, one hundred years ago this year. Friedman will fill us in on the rest of the story.
After the program, coffee, punch and refreshments will be available. The museum is handicapped accessible. Regular admission is $3 for adults, $1 for children under 12 and free admission for children under 5 and Carlton County Historical Society members. For more information contact the museum at 218-879-1938.
