Northland College Associate Professor of English Cynthia Belmont will present the documentary “Goodbye Gauley Mountain: An Ecosexual Love Story,” Thursday, February 12 at 6 p.m. as part of the monthly Cocktail and Culture Series at The Spot in Ashland.
“This is such an important film,” Cynthia said. “It illustrates the significance of fighting for the places and communities that we love—the landscapes and people that connect us—and it shows a range of personal and political responses to destructive mining practices, to corporate challenges to community, and to the idea that we can have relationships with nature that go beyond traditional definitions.”
Belmont, who teaches ecofeminism, will introduce the film and field questions afterwards. The 70-minute documentary is about two women who protest mountain top removal in West Virginia. “I’m looking forward to an inspiring and thought-provoking evening,” Cynthia said.
The program is free and open to the public. The Spot, located at 116 14th Avenue East, will be serving veggie curry in addition to their usual menu. For more information visit www.spotwellness.com or call 715-292-6556.
