History of the Flame

Join Gus Smith, U.S. Forest Service Kawishiwi District Ranger, Thursday, February 16 at 7 p.m. in the Northland College Sigurd Olson Environmental Institute for a presentation on the “History of the Flame.” As part of the SOEI’s National Parks Stewardship Speaker Series, Smith will delve into the history and evolution of our national fire policy. He is currently based in Ely, and oversees much of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. Smith has also been a fire manager in Yosemite National Park for several years and is a former natural resources faculty member at Northland College.
