Discover Winter Snowshoe Hike is a free snowshoeing program offered at Jay Cooke State Park Saturday, Dec. 28, from 1-2:30 p.m. Join the staff and discover the park in winter. After some “how-to-snowshoe” basics, the hike will head off in search of whatever’s flying, creeping and running through the woods. Child and adult snowshoes are available. Call ahead to reserve a pair at 218-384-4610, ext. 227. Meet at the River Inn Interpretive Center. A Minnesota State Park vehicle permit is required to enter the park, and can be purchased for $5 for the day or $25 for an annual permit. Enter the park at the west entrance through Carlton and Thomson on Highway 210. The park's east entrance off of Highway 23 in Fond Du Lac is still closed to the public. www.dnr.state.mn.us/state_parks.
