Kellie Rae Theiss: "Minnesota Below the Surface"
to
MacRostie Art Center 405 1st Avenue NW, Grand Rapids, Minnesota 55744
Coinciding with the opening of fishing season, the MacRostie Gallery will host a series of 37 paintings by Kellie Rae Theiss that explore the aquatic ecology of northern Minnesota, May 2 to 30. A master painter and poet, Kellie Rae makes portraits of fish, crustaceans and turtles that reveal the great variety and beauty found in scales, fins, shells and slime. Born and raised in Nebraska, she earned her BFA at the University of Nebraska and continued her studies in art at the Academia de Riaci in Florence, Italy. She owned her own gallery in Minneapolis for nearly 10 years and was president of the Twin Cities Fine Arts Organization. Now she works out of her studio near Floodwood, Minnesota, which keeps her in close proximity to the subject matter that inspires her. She is represented in galleries in Minnesota, Nebraska, Colorado, Alaska and France, and she has work in the permanent collection of the Bell Museum of Natural History. She also enjoys sharing her knowledge of the natural world with others by teaching classes to both young and mature students. MacRostie Art Center is open Tuesday through Saturday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and is closed Sundays. An artist reception will be Friday, May 2, from 4 to 8 p.m. For more information, call 218-326-2697. macrostieartcenter.org.
