Know Your Ships

Marquette Maritime Museum’s Maritime History on Tap lecture series presents Know Your Ships with Roger LeLievre on January 2, 7:00pm, at the Ore Dock Brewing Company.

Know Your Ships, an annual guidebook on the boats of the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Seaway, was first published in 1959 by Thomas Manse in his Sault Ste. Marie basement. The guidebook has been published yearly ever since. It contains essential boat stats such as length, year built, and owners for all types of ships from ore freighters to cruise ships and tugs. Roger LeLievre took over the editing and publishing of Know Your Ships in 1995.

“From humble beginnings in 1959," says Roger, "the annual Know Your Ships guide has evolved into much more than just a ship directory. It has become a gateway for many into a rewarding hobby and a catalyst for many lifelong friendships among those who love the lakers.”
