Science on Tap: the Science of Eating & Drinking

Learn about the science of eating & drinking when the University of Minnesota Duluth's Swenson College of Science & Engineering (SCSE) hosts a Science on Tap event Thursday, March 30, to share interesting and fun facts about food and beverages. The free event will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Clyde Iron Works and people of all ages are welcome to attend. The night will feature a variety of demonstrations and hands-on activities in the bar area of Clyde Iron Works,. Because of the location, the event is geared mainly for an adult audience. UMD professors, staff and students are delivering the activities along with one from Northern Waters Smokehaus on the science of dry curing meats. For example, there will be demonstrations on the genetics of tasting, how to make ice cream with liquid nitrogen and the role of fermentation in early societies. Participants can come anytime during the event to visit the different stations and join in the activities.
