It's Visitor Appreciation Weekend at Madeline Island Museum. Explore Madeline Island’s storied past at the Madeline Island Museum for half-priced admission (kids 17 & under free). Experience more than 300 years of Island history, from Ojibwe lifeways to the fur trade, from missionaries to loggers, from boat building to fishing and more. Located half a block from the ferry landing in downtown La Pointe, the museum is open 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Owned and operated by the Wisconsin Historical Society. The Madeline Island Ferry Line will provide complimentary return passenger fare with admission to the Madeline Island Museum (ticket must be picked up at the Madeline Island Museum). Ticket is valid on June 1 or 2 only for return to Bayfield. Vehicles and bicycles must pay regular ferry fare. Experience what visitors have called “the best beach in northern Wisconsin” at Big Bay Town Park. Picnic area with covered pavilion, fishing and canoe rentals. Bridge spans beautiful lagoon. Leave your car on the mainland. There's free shuttle service to Big Bay Town and State Park offered between 10:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Saturday, June 1, and Sunday, June 2. Pick-up location is at Madeline Island Museum. Last shuttle will leave the town park at 4:45 p.m. and the state park at 5 p.m. Open house at Big Bay State Park: Explore Madeline Island’s natural beauty while enjoying outdoor fun at Big Bay State Park with free vehicle admission. Located 6½ miles from downtown La Pointe, Big Bay State Park offers 7 miles of hiking, boardwalk and natural trails, beach access, picnic areas and camping.
