Celebrate Memorial Day, Monday, May 26, at the Carlton County Historical Society, open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Memorial Day marks the start of the museum's third year participating in the Blue Star Museum program, offering free admission to all active-duty U.S. military personnel and their families Memorial Day through Labor Day.
View our exhibits on "65 Treasures of Carlton County," "The Ojibwe of Carlton County," "The Logging Era," "The 1918 Fire" and "Mountie Posters and Calendars" and enjoy refreshments. At 2 p.m. Allen R. Anway presents an encore performance of his new and revised program called "The Greatest Scientific Prize Ever Awarded in History."
Anway, retired physicist and Cloquet native, produced a PowerPoint presentation which he has researched and will narrate. Come to the museum to learn about this prize, greater than $3 million in today's money, given in 1714 to solve the most difficult navigation problem known to man – how to determine longitude while on a ship.
Regular admission is $2 for adults, $1 for children under 12 and no charge for children under 5 or CCHS members. The museum is handicapped accessible. Remember, military personnel are admitted free starting Memorial Day! For more information call 218-879-1938.
