Looking for something to do after Christmas? The Carlton County Historical Society hosts its December Friday Movies at the Museum on Friday, December 26 at 1 p.m. at its museum at 406 Cloquet Avenue in Cloquet, Minnesota.
The featured presentation is a DVD called "Beyond the Prize" created by Cloquet native, Howard Lavick. It tells the story of the Cloquet High School 1963 basketball team's participation in the state basketball tournament. Shown on the big screen, this DVD includes interviews with the coach, Bennett Trochlil, and some team members as well as original film clips from the 1963 game. Popcorn and cold drinks will be served. During intermission door prize winners will be announced.
This event concludes the 2014 programs at the museum that help interpret the exhibit "65 Treasures," celebrating the 65th birthday of the CCHS with 65 items from the collection that are significant to Carlton County history. One of the items in the exhibit is the basketball trophy won in that 1963 state tournament game along with the net from the basketball hoop from the arena. The exhibit concludes at the end of 2014.
Admission to the museum is $2 for adults, $1 for children under 12 and free for children under 5 and CCHS members. The museum is handicapped accessible. For more information call the CCHS at 218-879-1938.
