Northeast Regional History Day Competition

More than 200 students from schools throughout northeast Minnesota will present their History Day exhibits, documentaries and performances at the University of Minnesota Duluth on Saturday, March 11, starting at 8 a.m. Students in grades 6 to 12 began with the 2017 theme “Taking a Stand in History” and created projects on topics ranging from Russian ballet to the fall of the Berlin Wall. Winners at regionals will advance to State History Day, April 29, at the University of Minnesota. State winners are eligible to compete at National History Day in Washington, D.C., in June. National History Day in Minnesota is a co-curricular historical research program that builds college readiness and communication skills for middle and high school students. 27,000 students from about 250 schools participate in Minnesota each year. The program in Minnesota is a partnership of the Minnesota Historical Society and the University of Minnesota, Department of History.
