Northern Fibers Retreat
to
North House Folk School 500 Highway 61 West, Grand Marais, Minnesota 55604
Wool and woodstoves, friends and fibers – it all weaves into a cozy tapestry during the Northern Fibers Retreat at North House Folk School. This five-day event celebrates all manner of fiber arts, featuring seminars, community gatherings and coursework from long-time North House instructors as well as new guests artisans. North House is happy to collaborate with the Northwoods Fiber Guild to bring you more than two dozen course options: build your own wooly adventure spinning, knitting, felting, sewing, beading and more.
The featured guest Instructor is Karin Flatøy Svarstad of Kalvåg, Norway, who should have no problem knowing what to pack for her visit to northern Minnesota in February. Karin has been researching and working with the wool of the North Atlantic Sea for more than 40 years. She focuses on the native sheep of the area, dispersed throughout Norway, Shetland, Orkney, the Faroe Islands, Iceland, Greenland, the Outer Hebrides and the Isle of Man during the Viking Era. During her visit over the Northern Fibers Retreat, she will teach two courses in felting: Felting Exploration: Sculptural Felting and Felting: Creative Hats & Bags. Karin will give a public talk in the evening on Saturday, February 16. The full schedule available online at www.northhouse.org.
