Lyric Opera of the North presents Donizetti’s comic opera, L’Elisir D’Amore (The Elixir of Love) at Marshall Performing Arts Center on UMD’s campus June 14 at 7:30 p.m. and June 16 at 3 p.m. Nemorino is hopelessly in love with wealthy and beautiful Adina. Adina won't give Nemorino the time of day, however, and allows the preposterously charming army sergeant Belcore to woo her. When Nemorino is about to lose his loved one, Dr. Dulcamara, a traveling snake oil salesman, provides him with a "love potion," which, although it is nothing more than cheap wine, helps save the day. Donizetti’s score bubbles with hummable melodies as our colorful characters find true love and a happy ending. The LOON chorus will be busier than ever in this luscious, lovely opera – just right for an almost-summer outing. Starring Gennard Lombardozzi, Sarah Lawrence, Lee Gregory, Rod Nelman, and Jennifer LeDoux. Conducted by Dirk Meyer, with stage direction by Bradley Greenwald.
