Paths to Resilience Open House at AICHO

Please join the AICHO staff and Gimaajii families as they host an open house celebration of the year long accomplishments made through their Climate and Cultural Resiliency Grant Project. The event, titled "Paths to Resilience," will take place on Saturday, June 2nd from 1-4:30 p.m. at 202 W. 2nd Street.
Several activities throughout the event are planned to focus on AICHO’s solar array, urban gardens, art (featuring photography and videos from youth living in the Gimaajii-Mino-Bimaadizimin Building), Ojibwe language, Indigenous food tasting, community resources, a Gimaajii youth market and vermicomposting! The event will close with a ceremonial planting of a plant in one of the new rooftop garden beds. There is a $10 at the door suggest donation. No one will be turned away for lack of funds.
Guest speakers who are community leaders in the realm of climate change, renewable energy, sustainable practices, and cultural practices/cultural resilience will be giving three back-to-back 20-minute workshops so that the community has an opportunity to attend multiple sessions. Ricky DeFoe will provide a traditional pipe ceremony, there will be hand drum songs by Oshkii Giizhik Singers and speakers from AICHO’s staff and board for the 1:30-2 p.m. opening ceremony. There will also be face-painting for kids, and other art activities for the whole family. The first 20 people (one per family) to arrive will receive a gift bag with prizes.
