Animal Allies and Master Framing Gallery in Duluth will host Prints for Paws on April 16 at Master Framing Gallery, 1431 London Rd. This is a fundraiser for scholarships for student/animal therapy teams and for future Animal Allies PAWS (Pet Away Worry and Stress) programs on the University of Minnesota Duluth campus. Therapy animals are shown to decrease stress, anxiety and depression in schools, hospitals, nursing homes and other places. The process of getting a pet therapy animal certified is long, and the tests can be expensive, costing about $200 per animal. The creation of the scholarship fund will allow five more students to certify their animals and start supporting the community needs. Funds may also help with Animal Allies' participation in the Pet Away Worry and Stress event that happens every month at UMD,, when therapy animals are brought on campus for college students and staff to relax and play with for the afternoon. The event reaches more than 1,000 students each month. The event will include snacks and door prizes. Visitors will be able to buy art from the gallery and have a percentage of it go to the Animal Allies fundraiser. And decorative pet name prints will be made at the event. Attendees also can make separate donations to the scholarship and PAWS participation as well. For information, call Pat Castellano at Animal Allies, 218-722-2110, or Krista Carson at Master Framing Gallery, 218-728-4056. The event runs from 4:30 to 7 p.m.
