Quilt Program at Cloquet Museum
to
Carlton County Historical Society 406 Cloquet Avenue, Cloquet, Minnesota 55720
The Carlton County Historical Society's guest speaker for its 69th Annual Meeting is Beverly Proulx, a master quilter. Her program called "An Eye For Color" will follow a brief business meeting starting at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 28, at the CCHS museum in Cloquet.
Proulx lives in North Branch, Minnesota, where she and her late husband, Ronald J. Proulx of Cloquet, were both high school teachers. She has acquired a large collection of quilts, some of which she donated to the CCHS museum, representing three generations of the Proulx family. Currently on exhibit at the museum is a colorful contemporary quilt Proulx made in 2007 called "Batik Web." Her presentation explains how quilts have used color over a 200 year history. Quilts were also tied to the history of the 1918 Fire as one of the first household items victims saved as they fled their homes.
Visitors will be able to view the museum's new exhibit, "A Century Ago – The Great 1918 Fire," which includes quilts. Refreshments will be served after the program. Regular admission is $3 for adults, $1 for children under 12, and free admission for children under 5 and Carlton County Historical Society members. The museum is handicapped accessible.
