Read Between the Wines
The Marquette Regional History Center and Literacy Legacy Fund of Michigan are holding a wine tasting Thursday Nov. 8th, 2018, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the History Center, 145 W. Spring Street in Marquette. This is a collaborative fundraiser to support literacy and local history.
Everyday Wines will provide expertise and a thoughtful wine selection to sample. Wines will playfully reflect the uncommon bonds Marquette County local history has to the wider world. We’ve always been a strangely connected place for a small city on Superior, and it’s time to toast our surprisingly cosmopolitan community.
Celebrated local history authors including Tyler Tichelaar and Sonny Longtine will read excerpts from their books. Members of the audience can buy signed books and discuss local history research and the art of writing with authors in a relaxed setting. Actor Jessica “Red” Bays will do a dramatic reading of an entertaining historical piece from the J. M. Longyear Library.
Commemorative tasting glasses are available while supplies last, and all ticketholders can enter a drawing for a framed historical image. Come network with other Marquette County history people. Patrons can mingle with fellow local history enthusiasts at the History Center, wines in hand, and share their love of our area’s vivid stories.
We will have raffles for prizes from local businesses and offer the chance to bid on a copy of Fred Rydholm’s Superior Heartland, out of print and increasingly difficult to find.
Call (906) 226-3571 or logon to www.marquettehistory.org for more information. Tickets are $35 and available now.
